This is a beginner friendly crochet pattern and video tutorial showing how to crochet a granny square and create a shadow box with it. Perfect for a gallery wall, or tiered tray! The stitch definition of the cotton yarn is lovely, plus it is a great way to use up scraps. Time wise, the granny square takes about 15-20 minutes, another 5 or so for gluing and then finishing touches so just under 30 minutes.

Finished Size: Square is about 4 3/8″ Wide. Wall Hanging is 5″ Wide.

Materials

  • 20 Yards of Worsted Weight #4 Yarn (I used a variety of colors of Lily Sugar n Cream & Crafters Secret Cotton),
  • H8/5mm crochet hook,
  • a tapestry needle,
  • 5″ shadow box (mine is from Michaels),
  • glue (I recommend Titebond Quick and Thick Multi-Surface)

Skill Level: Easy
