Honeycomb Washcloth
Design by Sarah Ruane from Ned and Mimi.
The Crochet Honeycomb Stitch, also known as the “smock stitch,” is a fun and eye-catching pattern that creates a thick, durable fabric—perfect for hot pads or a sturdy washcloth. Though it might look tricky at first, it quickly becomes easy to follow as you get into the four-row repeat. The stitch uses more yarn than most dishcloth patterns, so be sure to have extra on hand. I made mine in a bright yellow cotton yarn from Drops Paris, in color “Dandelion,” which gives it a cheerful, summery vibe. Because the stitch is so dense, consider using a larger hook size to keep your tension nice and even.
