Simple Stripes Single Crochet Bag
By CrochetNCrafts.
The simple stripes single crochet bag pattern is perfect for absolute crochet beginners. For those not comfortable making color changes, the bag can easily be worked up in a single color if desired.
This bag pattern is also a great option if you have leftover yarn that needs to be used up. I had lots of both colors, and thus, I chose to make three sets of stripes with the same color. But you can mix and match your yarns as much as you like in order to use up the smallest amounts of scraps.
Another bonus of this bag is that it is nice and sturdy. However, for even more durability, you can line it with a simple lining.
It’s stylish, making it great for anyone in need of a bag. The only thing is that it’s not all that big, but it’s super easy to increase the base of the bag to get the size that you need.
This free crochet pattern is available in the Summer Crochet Patterns Collection on Etsy.
Although perfect for the summer, many of these crochet patterns can be used throughout the year.

Lay the bag flat to place your markers for the handles. Count over 14 stitches on the sides of the bag and place stitch marker in 15th stitch. Counting the stitch markers, you should have 20 stitches marked off in the middle. Do the same on the other side. Stitch markers should align on each side of the bag. Do not crochet into the 20 stitches in the middle.
Rnd 51: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into each st up to marked st, * loosely ch 60 (or any number depending on how long or short you want the handles), sk the 20 sts marked off in the middle*, sc in next 28 sts; rep from * to * once; then sc in remaining sts; join with sl st in first sc. [56 sts and 120 chs]
Note: Work into the back bumps of the chs to keep things looking the same on both sides of the handle.

Rnds 53-56: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into each st around; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten Off at last rnd. [176 sts]
