Easy Crochet Bag Pattern – Single Crochet Eyelets
Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned crocheter, you will enjoy the simplicity, yet elegant look, of this easy crochet bag pattern. Not only is this free crochet pattern simple and easy to follow, but it is also super easy to customize to match your style, seasons, or any occasion you may attend.
You have the choice of using an ombre yarn as shown or choose a solid color to show off the beautifully stitched fabric. Another thing that is super easy to do is add a few stripes throughout to make it stand out more.
To further customize you can add a simple bag liner with pockets and a zipper. And for those who love appliques and buttons, the possibilities are endless!
That’s the beauty of crochet, you are always the artist!
Adjusting Your Bag Size
When laid flat, the bag measures approximately 15″ wide by 12″ high, not including the handles. The base of the bag measures approximately 14.5″ by 6.5″.
You can adjust the size if needed, simply by increasing or decreasing the base.
As for the handles, you will need to make adjustments to the number of stitches you count off. It’s super easy, but if you’re not sure how, this tutorial on how to crochet bag handles explains it in detail.
9 Crochet Shawl Patterns – Lightweight and Rectangular
This ebook of 9 crochet shawl patterns is available in my CrochetNCrafts Etsy Shop. The crochet shawls are lightweight and rectangular, making them great for year-round use!
The patterns are given in one size only, but each of the nine patterns includes a multiple for your starting chains so you can easily adjust the length and width to your heart’s desire.
Choosing the Best Yarn
For bags, I prefer to use a worsted-weight cotton yarn. I prefer this over acrylics because of its strength and durability, which makes it ideal for everyday use including grocery errands and the beach!
Bernat Handicrafter is readily available in my local stores, and thus generally my choice when it comes to making a crochet bag.
Lily Sugar N Cream is another excellent yarn that I sometimes use for bags and totes.
Acrylics can also work if you add a strong liner, or if you don’t plan on using your bag for heavy stuff, Market bags generally don’t need a liner either.

The Stitch Pattern
This easy-to-follow crochet bag pattern is worked in one piece from the bottom up.
It features the single crochet and chain stitches only! Hence beginner friendly, but also pretty enough that everyone will want to make one!
The eyelets are small, but big enough to make this bag suitable for the produce market and grocery stores.

Handles
Lay the bag flat to place your markers for the handles. Count over 18 sts on the sides of the bag and place stitch marker in 19th stitch. Counting the stitch markers, you should have 20 sts marked off in the middle. Do the same on the other side. Stitch markers should align on each side of the bag. Do not crochet into the 20 stitches in the middle. Here is a tutorial.
Note: Crochet into the back bumps of the chains made for the handles.
Rnd 52: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into each st up to marked st, *loosely ch 60 (or any number depending on how long or short you want the handles), sk the 20 sts marked off in the middle*, sc in next 36 sts; rep from * to * once; then sc in remaining sts; join with sl st in first sc. [72 sts and 120 chs]

Rnds 54-58: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into each st around; join with sl st in first sc. [192 sts] Fasten Off.
