Intermittent Single Crochet Cross Stitch Dishcloth

Make this single crochet cross-stitch dishcloth for your next housewarming gift basket. It is an all-purpose washcloth for the kitchen, bathroom, and around the home. Make several ahead of time to have them handy for yourself and anyone else who loves homemade washcloths.

Intermittent Single Crochet Cross Stitch Dishcloth

I crocheted mine in a solid color, but the stitch pattern makes it very easy to incorporate more colors. Two colors changed after each row, or even after every two rows would look nice. Another option is to add a few stripes along each end.

The Size

The finished size measures approximately 8.5″ by 9″. But, you can easily adjust the stitch count to make this to any size that you need. Two rows less than what the pattern says should give you a nice square.

Recommended Yarn

I used 24/7 cotton by Lion Brand. This yarn is not advertised as a dishcloth yarn, but the mercerized cotton is durable and perfect for all your washing needs!

Although classified as a worsted weight yarn, it is much thinner and works well with a 4mm crochet hook. Thus, you get a nice drape and a thinner cloth, which makes it quicker for drying.

With that said, use any dishcloth cotton that you have on hand. The stitch counts are super easy to adjust to accommodate any yarn thickness.

The Stitch Pattern

The only stitch used in this pattern is the single crochet! One row is worked in a straight single crochet pattern, and then for the second row, the single crochets are crossed to give you the texture you’re looking for in a crochet dishcloth.
