This quick cowl uses a traveling stitch to add texture. It’s a great project to make with hand dyed yarn since the simple stitch pattern lets the yarn shine.

Measurements

  • Finished size is for an adult: 22.5” (57 cm) long x 7” (18 cm) wide after blocking.
  • Gauge: 17 sts = 4” (10 cm) across in pattern. Exact gauge is not critical for this project.

Skills Used

  • Basic crochet stitches: chain, double crochet, half double crochet, slip stitch, treble (triple) crochet
  • Crocheting flat in rows, skipping stitches, crocheting in chain spaces
  • Special stitch pattern: FPdc (with written instructions and linked video tutorial)

Materials:

  • BellaTuBoheme Caterpillar DK yarn (100 % wool, 3.5 oz/100 g/250 yd/229 m) – 2 skein in any colorway, or approximately 300 yd (274 m) in any light weight yarn.
  • US Size H-8/5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • 0.75” sew-through or shank buttons – 5 buttons.
  • Yarn needle with an eye small enough to fit through button holes.
