This beginner-friendly scarf pattern uses a lacy variation on the classic shell stitch. Create beautiful stripes while alternating rows in 3 colors. Decorative edges cover most yarn tails. This pattern is part of the 2022 Scarf of the Month Crochet Along with Oombawka Design Crochet and The Stitchin’ Mommy.

Adult Size: 5.75” (14.5 cm) wide x 53.75” (136.5 cm) long

  • Basic crochet stitches: chain, double crochet, single crochet
  • Crocheting flat in rows
  • Changing colors, crocheting into a long foundation chain, crocheting into chain spaces, crocheting over yarn tails, crocheting in the side of rows (includes video tutorials for these tips and techniques)

Materials

  • King Cole Luxury Merino DK yarn (100% superwash Merino wool, 1.75 oz/50 g, 153 yd/140 m) – 2 skeins in 3391 Charcoal (CA) and 1 skein each in 3390 Turquoise (CB) and 3389 Aqua (CC), or approximately 166 yd (152 m) in CA, 136 yd (124.5 m) in CB, and 115 yd (105 m) in light weight yarn.
  • US Size H-8/5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Stitch marker.
  • Yarn needle.
