This 12” (30.5 cm) square starts with a hexagon. Crossed double crochet and popcorn stitches add texture. This square was designed for the sixth annual Moogly Crochet Along.

Gauge: Motif = 12” (30.5 cm) square in pattern. Exact gauge is not critical for this project.

Skills Used

  • Basic crochet stitches: chain, double crochet, half double crochet, single crochet, slip stitch, treble (triple) crochet
  • Crocheting in the round, increasing, crocheting into chain spaces, skipping stitches, crocheting into skipped stitches, crocheting in the back loop only
  • Special stitches: cdc, cl, and popcorn (with video tutorials linked in the pattern)

Materials

  • Red Heart With Love yarn (100% acrylic, 7 oz/198 g/370 yd/338 m) – 1 skein each in 1502 Iced Aqua (CA), 1803 Blue Hawaii (CB), and 1441 Light Gray (CC), or approximately 55 yd (50.5 m) in CA and 32 yd (29 m) each in CB and CC in any medium weight yarn.
  • US Size J-10/6 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Yarn needle.
  • Stitch markers (optional).
