This crochet slouchy beanie pattern is available in all sizes from newborn to adult. It features a beautiful texture that is great for both genders, making it a great go-to pattern for the entire family.

This variation on the double crochet stitch creates a twill texture. This hat was designed to meet the donation requirements for Knots of Love, an organization that distributes handmade hats to people experiencing traumatic hair loss.

  • Newborn: 12” (30.5 cm) hat circumference x 6.25” (16 cm) height.
  • 0-3 Months: 15” (38 cm) hat circumference x 7.25” (18.5 cm) height.
  • 3-6 Months: 16” (40.5 cm) hat circumference x 7.5” (19 cm) height.
  • 6-12 Months: 17” (43 cm) hat circumference x 8” (20.5 cm) height.
  • Toddler: 18” (46 cm) hat circumference x 8.25” (21 cm) height.
  • Child: 19” (48 cm) hat circumference x 8.75” (22 cm) height.
  • Teen/Adult Small: 21” (53.5 cm) hat circumference x 9.5” (24 cm) height.
  • Adult Medium: 22” (56 cm) hat circumference x 10” (25.5 cm) height.
  • Adult Large: 23” (58.5 cm) hat circumference x 10.25” (26 cm) height.

Gauge

  • 10 scBL = 2.25” (6 cm) in pattern for Hat Band using smaller hook.
  • 12 HBdc = 4” (10 cm) using larger hook.
  • For best fit, always check your gauge.

  • Lion Brand Heartland yarn (100% acrylic, 5 oz/142 g/251 yd/230 m) – 1 skein each in 147 Hot Springs (CA) and 151 Katmai (CB), or approximately 75 yd (110 yd, 120 yd, 140 yd, 150 yd, 170 yd, 200 yd, 220 yd, 240 yd)/69 m (100.5 m, 110 m, 128 m, 137 m, 155.5 m, 183 m, 201 m, 219.5 m) in CA and 40 yd (55 yd, 60 yd, 70 yd, 75 yd, 85 yd, 100 yd, 110 yd, 120 yd)/36.5 m (50 m, 55 m, 64 m, 68.5 m, 78 m, 91.5 m, 100.5 m, 110 m) in any medium weight yarn.
  • Nelsonwood US Size H-8/5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Nelsonwood US Size I-9/5.5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Yarn needle.
  • Clover Extra Large Pom Pom Maker (optional).
